World Cinema Amsterdam celebrates its eighth edition from Thursday 17 to Saturday 26 August in Rialto and De Balie. The festival showcases the best independently produced films from Asia, Africa and Latin America. This year the festival has selected three exceptional feature films and one beautiful short from Asia. From South Korea, China and India.

A compelling story of suspicion and distrust. A simple North Korean fisherman accidentally drifts into South Korean waters. He is immediately arrested and taken to Seoul where he is subjected to endless interrogations. All he wants is to return home to his family.

The screening of NEWTON in Rialto on August 23 is preceded by the short film SHAI (world premiere). Hip-hop dancer Shailesh Bahoran explores how the past as well as the future have shaped his current self. Experimental filmmaker Shueti captures his journey on film.
