“The film is about loneliness, but knows how to bring this lovingly. The consolation is in the tragedy. A beautiful story with a somewhat printed but optimistic aftertaste.” –Film Vandaag

With Japanese top actress Shinobu Terajima and the American Hollywood Star Josh Hartnett.

OH LUCY! is a bittersweet comedy in which Japanese filmmaker Atsuko Hirayanagi sketches the cultural differences between East and West in striking scenes. The loving portrayal of her characters and the touching end of OH LUCY! makes it a real feel-good movie.

Setsuko Kawashima (Shinobu Terajima), a lonely, chain-smoking office lady in Tokyo, has past her prime. Pushed by her niece Mika (Shioli Kutsuna) she decides to take English class. Her American teacher John (Josh Harnett) not only teaches the language but also introduces the Western culture to his Japanese students. John gives Setsuko a blonde wig, a new identity, and an American alter ego: “Lucy”. When John suddenly disappears, Setsuko sets out an a quest together with her sister to the outskirts of Southern California. In this unknown world with tattoo shops and dirty motels, family ties and old patterns are being tested, while Setsuko tries to keep the dream of her alter ego alive.
