After drinking your jasmine tea, you’ll start your weekly conference call at 10:00 GMT in the morning with CinemAsia’s Artistic Director Maggie Lee. She’s in Shanghai and she’ll give you an update about a film by a new emerging Chinese filmmaker. 12:00 Maggie sends you all the details so that you can energetically take care of the distribution and administration. Because the film will be included in the programming for the CinemAsia Film Festival 2019. 14:00 E-mail contact with the distributor in Hong Kong. 15:00 Meeting with CinemAsia Marketing department about a filmreview. 19:00 hrs: You watch and discuss the film with your colleagues so that you are well informed about the entire film programme.

Who is CinemAsia?

CinemAsia strives to present a meticulous picture of Asian culture in the Netherlands through film. CinemAsia organises many high-quality and accessible film activities for the Dutch public and film professionals, culminating in the annual CinemAsia Film Festival in March… CinemAsia not only offers culture and entertainment, but is also a platform for Asian-Dutch filmmakers. For this reason, CinemAsia encourages these filmmakers to tell their own stories in its talent development programme CinemAsia FilmLAB.

What does a Programme Coordinator do?

The Programme Coordinator is the right hand of the Artistic Director Maggie Lee and is her point of contact here in The Netherlands. Together with our print traffic coordinator, you will ensure that all films and supplies for the film programme for the annual CinemAsia Film Festival and the film activities arrive in the Netherlands on time.

As Program Coordinator, you will work closely with the Artistic Director and the Cinemasia core team. You are primarily responsible for arranging and coordinating the programme, which is compiled by the Cinemasia Programme Team.

Your tasks

You are the point of contact for films and programming for Artistic Director Maggie Lee. As a Personal Assistant, you are also fully responsible for the management and organisation of Maggie Lee’s programme (including logistics) during her frequent working visits to the Netherlands.

You independently maintain relations with all distributors, film producers and film makers in Asia and in the Netherlands. You can arrange the films within the budget.
You play a role in the marketing of the film programme as a whole and of the individual films. Think, for example, of regulating all materials and press links. You are good at language and can write in a public-oriented way. In doing so, you will work closely with the Marketing & Communication department.
Together with the Artistic & Managing directors you will set up the policy for Call-for-submission for the CinemAsia Film Festival in The Netherlands.

Who are you?

  • Minimum HBO thinking level
  • A passion for film and knowledge of Asian film is an advantage
    Building socially skilled and proven talent in relationships
  • Very cultural-sensitive with regard to the different Asian cultures
  • Strongly developed communication skills
  • Good command of Dutch and English in word and writing for both vacancies
  • Very good command of the Chinese language for one of the two vacancies
  • It is an advantage if you also master another Asian language: Japanese, Korean or Bahasa Indonesia, for instance.
  • Being able to work in a structured and planned way
  • Ability to operate under pressure and to anticipate change.
  • Excellent Excel skills, and a lot of experience in software programs like MS Office is a pre
  • Feeling involved with the mission of CinemAsia and affinity with Asia / Asian cinema is desirable.
  • You have absolutely no 9 to 5 mentality

Other information

It concerns a function for 1-2 days a week with the possibility to expand to a full-time function in the months before the festival, working hours are flexible. The position is on a freelance basis and reimbursement is negotiable.
