It is the first big-budget film in Hollywood to feature a full Asian cast for 25 years, after THE JOY LUCK CLUB 喜福会 was produced in 1993. Crazy Rich Asians is a romantic comedy, based on the international best-selling book by Kevin Kwan. The film follows a Chinese-American woman who finds out more about her friend and family when they travel to Singapore together for a wedding. As a spectator you dive into the world of glitter & glamour and of the rich Asian tigers – at a time when the Asian economy is running at full speed and Asia is home to the most billionaires of our globe.
Love is not for sale
Crazy Rich Asians follows the New York-born Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) when she accompanies her friend Nick Young (Henry Golding) to the wedding of his best friend in Singapore. She is enthusiastic about her first visit to Asia, but also nervous to meet Nick’s family. Nick, however, has forgotten to mention some important details about his life, as a result of which Rachel ends up in special situations completely unprepared. It turns out that he is not only the descendant of one of the richest families in the country, but also one of the most sought-after bachelors. Her relationship with Nick makes Rachel a target for jealous jet-setters, but worse still… Nick his own disapproving mother (Michelle Yeoh). It becomes clear quickly enough that although money cannot buy love, it can certainly make things more complicated.
