CinemAsia Film Festival is the go-to place for Asian cinema and culture. In the past 16 years we have built up a loyal following of film lovers from both the Netherlands and from the many Asian communities that enrich Dutch society. CinemAsia wants to contribute to a better representation of those communities. We feel that there is a need for this as Asian film professionals, actors, producers and film critics are still under-represented in the Netherlands.
Therefore, we would love to invite YOU to become a Jury Member for CinemAsia’s Diaspora Competition, with films from filmmakers from that diaspora background. Veteran film festival programmer LEO SOESANTO (Cannes International Film Festival, IFFR, Bordeaux Independent IFF) curated a section with 5 feature films with diaspora theme’s or from diaspora filmmakers. We can’t tell you the films yet, but it will be an exciting selection!
We are looking for 5 young Asian (media) professionals/students/film lovers (<28) who have their focus on Asian film, or are willing to shift their focus towards Asian film criticism and film analysis. You will be guided and trained in a mentor program of film critics who are already established and experienced. This will help you to judge the films based on cinematographic merit, their addition to the current status quo of diaspora stories, relevance to society and the current public debate. Besides that, you will get a unique opportunity to experience a film festival production from up close and personal! You will be reimbursed for travel costs, get a festival pass to see all films and will get personal coaching from film professionals. We will offer you a schedule to watch the diaspora competition films from the 4th to the 8th and will take care of your lunches and dinners. Two workshops on Thursday and Friday in the afternoon are part of the program.
Apply for CinemAsia’s Young Asian Critics Award by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org before 16 February. The selection of the Young Asian Critics Jury will be announced on 20 February 2020. Make sure you have an empty schedule between the 4th and the 8th of March 2020!
We especially invite young film lovers with an Asian diaspora background to apply for this jury.
