VR Programme: Trailblazing Taiwan – July 18 to September 17

Are you interested in more Asian VR experiences? During the CinemAsia Film Festival, there was a dedicated space for VR. Now, Nu:Reality , the first Virtual Reality platform in the Netherlands, presents from July 18 to September 17: “Trailblazing Taiwan”. You can experience Trailblazing Taiwan at the Eye Filmmuseum (Amsterdam), Filmhuis Den Haag, Concordia (Enschede), Schuur (Haarlem), LUX (Nijmegen), LantarenVenster (Rotterdam), and Slachtstraat (Utrecht).

Taiwan has been a leader in VR for years, continually pushing the boundaries both technically and content-wise. “Trailblazing Taiwan” is a tribute to the impressive immersive cinema the island produces.

The “Trailblazing Taiwan” program features three 360-degree works that visitors can experience together, each with their own VR headset: “Over the Rainbow” by artist Craig Quintero explores the delicate balance between desire and happiness, fantasy and familiarity. In the beautifully animated “Wonder of Life,” Wen Chieh Chang brings his iconic painting to life, exploring the wonder of life during a visit to a pond filled with lotus flowers. And in “Home” by Chih-Yen Hsu, a family gathers to show love to their grandmother, who is no longer able to move or respond.

Additionally, two interactive works are part of “Trailblazing Taiwan” and can be experienced in specially designed installations at the theaters: The dystopian “Samsara” by Hsin-Chien Huang transports visitors on a journey spanning millions of years. After Earth has been completely destroyed, humanity seems to have found a new place to settle, only to discover they are still on Earth, a hostile place where ancestors have turned against them. Time is merely an illusion, and past, present, and future are eternally intertwined here. In the interactive animation “Red Tail” by Fish Wang, inspired by Wang’s comic of the same name, a mysterious red tail leads viewers on a magical journey, creating a symbol of our childhood memories.
