Set against the backdrop of pandemic isolation, four young people face their personal challenges and difficulties under the strict lockdown. Deaf student Kento comes to terms with his sexuality. He confides in his friend, Rei, who is in a relationship, about his crush, a fellow student whom he is teaching Japanese Sign Language (JSL) online. As the protagonists navigate their language barrier and misunderstandings, their love quadrangle gets more and more complicated…
Ginger & Honey Milk is a sensitive and tender depiction of different kinds of loneliness. The film beautifully sheds light on the language gap between the deaf and the hearing, being young in pandemic times, and the intersectional challenges that queer and deaf people face while navigating love and relationships.
