Orpa is a Papuan teenage girl who dreams of furthering her education. Her aspirations, however, are interrupted by her father’s plan to marry her off to a wealthy man twice her age. Refusing to repeat the vicious cycle of becoming an obedient wife like many before her, Orpa escapes and heads to a nearby town. She crosses paths with Ryan, a musician from Jakarta, who asks her to guide him through the jungle. During their journey, the two bond over their shared loneliness and unfulfilled dreams.
This debut feature is inspired by the harrowing fate that many Papuan girls have suffered but also voices other challenges that many Papuans currently face, like the lack of basic infrastructure and the limited educational resources. Orpa shares a tale of resilience and the courage to break free from age-old traditions and inspires hope for future generations.
