After the death of her estranged father, Hong Kong based Acacia (Sammi CHENG) is dealt with organizing his send off, as well as taking care of her late father’s hotpot restaurant. At the funeral she discovers the existence of two half-sisters, Branch (Megan LAI) from Taiwan and Cherry (LI Xiaofeng) from mainland China, with whom she shares her resentment and contempt against her father. In their newly obtained hotpot restaurant, the three ladies form a bond together and start to understand the choices that their father has made in the past. Produced by Ann HUI, one of Hong Kong’s most prominent filmmakers, and with a supporting role by Andy LAU, director Heiward MAK has crafted an engaging and intimate family drama with a strong and eminent female cast.
Hong Kong based award winning writer-director and producer Heiward MAK made her directorial feature debut at the age of twenty four, with the film High Noon (2008). For her script of Love in a Puff (2010), she was awarded Best Screenplay at the 2011 Hong Kong Film Awards, and her short film Beside(s), Happiness (2011) won her a Best Director prize at the 24th Singapore International Film Festival. She produced WONG Chun’s debut film Mad World (2016), which opened the 10th edition of the CinemAsia Film Festival in 2017.
