Mirrored Calligraphy

「胸藏丘壑,城市不異山林;興寄煙霞,閻浮有如蓬島。」
“In possession of a lively imagination, one can live in the cities and feel
like one is in the mountains, and following one’s fancies with the clouds,
one can convert the living hell into the fairy island.”
This new installation works beyond the boundaries of traditional ink painting’s media; ponders a conceptual framework; and explores ink painting’s philosophical underpinnings. Being inspired by the below quote from “Quiet Dream Shadows”, a collection of Zhang Chao’s short and aesthetic essays. Yu Tzu Huang embodied the contemporary “Mirrored Calligraphy” through being an outsider of the society and observed the busy society calmly from the other side of the mirror (parallel world). “Mirrored Calligraphy” was mirror writing, written in the direction that is the reverse of the original Chinese calligraphy. She believes one can face one thing from another point of view, and one can make the life easier and fresher.

Contemporary Ink Art

「胸藏丘壑,城市不異山林;興寄煙霞,閻浮有如蓬島。」
“In possession of a lively imagination, one can live in the cities and feel
like one is in the mountains, and following one’s fancies with the clouds,
one can convert the living hell into the fairy island.”
「能閒世人之所忙者,方能忙世人之所閒。」
“Only those who take leisurely what the people of the world are busy about can be busy about what the people of the world take leisurely.”
「居城市中,當以畫幅當山水,以盆景當苑囿,以書籍當朋友。」
“A man living in the city must make scrolls of painting serve as a natural landscape, have flower arrangements in pots serve as a garden, and have books serve as his friends.”
