Agus takes his teenage daughter, Robin, to the Moluccan neighbourhood of his youth in a well-meaning but unannounced attempt for her to reconnect with her roots. Initially reluctant, Robin begins to explore her Moluccan ancestry while bonding with her loving grandmother. Behind the surface, however, Agus faces growing financial troubles and unresolved family conflicts that will test the relationship between father and daughter.

Acclaimed Dutch-Indo actor and filmmaker Martin SCHWAB makes his feature-length directorial debut with Pulang, a story that is rooted in the legacies of modern Dutch history and expands into universal themes of belonging, migration, and family. Torn between her Dutch and Moluccan identities, Robin experiences an identity crisis while her father struggles with troubles of his own, especially in the shadow of his stern father. In this warmly crafted film, Schwab skillfully moves between cultures and conveys the complexities that make our identities human.
