Part of the Crossing Borders: Asian-European Media Makers Shorts Programme

“Who Can Tell What Story?” is a crucial question in today’s diverse storytelling landscape. Personal position and social upbringing shape a creator’s narrative perspective, and this has inspired calls for the greater involvement of underrepresented communities in telling stories about, by, and for themselves—but how exactly is that accomplished? This panel discusses the complexities of representation and positionality in storytelling, especially within the Dutch Asian media landscape. It highlights the significance of diversity and inclusion and what still needs to be done in the industry.

Panelists: Kelly-Qian van Binsbergen (Omroep ZWART), Andrew van der Ven (filmmaker), Valeria Zanier (Assoc. Prof. University of Bologna). Moderated by Shiko Boxman.
