The growing global popularity of Asian cinema and media has opened up the doors for more Asian content to be distributed and exhibited in Europe. Films are leaping out of niche festival circuits and reaching larger audiences. But the films that make it to European theatres remain a tiny fraction of Asian cinema. This panel explores the current state of distributing Asian cinema and media in the Netherlands and Europe more broadly. It looks at the challenges and opportunities of distributing and exhibiting Asian cinema in Europe, the bridge between European distributors and filmmakers in Asia, and how new forms of media consumption, such as subscription video on demand, are reshaping the field.

Panelists: Laha Mebow (GAGA director), Sylvie van den Broek (Imagine Filmdistributie), Yi Wang (director of Queer East). Moderated by Jia Zhao.
